December 2007 Dearly Beloved in Christ Greetings to you all in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God has brought us to the last month of this year. When we look back, we see that He was so good to us. When you pass through the waters they will not sweep over you, when you walk through the fire you will not be burned, for I am the Lord your God.(Isa.43:2) This year we celebrated Thanksgiving Day. Did we thank Him from the depth of our hearts? Let us thank God from the depth of our hearts for all the blessings that we have received from Him. We live today because of His love only. The sudden demise of Rev. C.A. Mathew is a loss not only to his family but to the witnessing Christian community as well. I have heard of an incident involving Achen’s father. One night very late in the evening, after hearing some noises outside his home, he went to investigate. He grabbed his torch and shone the light outside and found that a thief was hiding in his coconut tree. When the thief saw the house owner, he jumped off the tree and started running. This appachen shoned the light on him and saw that it was a boy. He then said to the boy “there is an unfenced well there in front of you, go the other way”. I am sure this appachen’s kindness and love are qualities which are found in his children. Selah! (Stop and Think!) We have now come to another Christmas season. What is Christmas? For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. This love is referred as Agape, loving the unlovable. Can we love our enemies? Our neighbors? Our brothers? Am I not jealous of my brother if he receives more than that I have received. We are always mindful of others, in a negative manner. How much has he given? What all has he received, what else will he get, and it goes on... The poor widow gave what all she had. She didn’t look around to compare with what the other person gave. Only Jesus compared it. Leave it to Jesus. Paul in his letter to the Galatians says, We are God’s fellow workers. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another. Share each other’s burden, and in this way obey the law of Christ. Wish you all a Merry Christmas. Babu Achen |
Achen and family had been in the Karnataka Missions Field (Hoskote, Mundugod, Sirsi Sankeshwar, Kunta) for several years and then served in Kerala. The last parish they ministered at was in the Sultan Bathery and Nilambur area.
