Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We are in the season of The Great Lent. What is the focus of our life in this lent season? Let me ask, what is your life saying? The Bible says, not to worry about what we will eat or drink or how we will clothe ourselves (Matthew 6:31). But this verse is not just about worry; it’s about focus. You see, when we are focused on what we believe we don’t have, we wrongly believe we have nothing to give. Our focus is on ourselves.

St. Matthew 6:33 goes on to say, “But seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be yours as well.” God wants to bless us. God also wants to use us to bless others. When we focus on ourselves, we don’t feel joy in giving, nor do we even feel inclined to give. When our focus is on God, we trust that God will meet our every need, which frees us to give our time, abilities and money in service to others.

If you’re finding yourself being stingy with what God has given you, ask yourself where your focus has been. When you’re caught up in the things that matter most to God, such as loving others, showing mercy, praying for your enemies, and being a blessing to others, you don’t even have to ask the question. Your life will say it all.

Each day of Lent, read the Bible slowly and meditate on it.  Let the words lead you to your own reflections, thoughts and prayers.

Let us always be happy with the Lord. May the Lord’s blessings be with you all.

We are blessed to be under the pastoral guidance and leadership of Rev. Jojan Mathew John as Vicar of St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church NY. Achen's mother parish in India is Kuttapuzha Varicadu Sehion Mar Thoma Church located inThiruvalla. Achen attended college at Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla; completed his M. Phil. from Bombay and received a Bachelors in Divinity from Mar Thoma Theological Seminary, Kottayam.

Rev. Jojan M. John was ordained as a priest in the Mar Thoma Church on July 6, 1994 and has served as Vicar previously at Trivandram Quillon Diocese (Kovilloor , Mezhacodu, Melpalai and Kuttamala[Kulasekharam Center] ) for five years and Mar Thoma Church Thane, Mumbai for five years.

Jojan Achen was the convener for Land for Landless project and council member of the Trivadram Quilon Diocese. He served also as the president of the 35th Western India Youth Conference in 2001, Mumbai. In his many roles Achen has served very well as an administrator, organizer, and is also a talented singer.

Achen's wife is Mrs. Susan Mathews John BSc, BEd, and children, Vishakh John Mathews, age 5, and Vrindha Chinnu Mathews, age 2. Achen's father, Rev. V. K. John, is a senior priest of the Mar Thoma Church.
